C/O Chamber Orchestra

The c/o chamber orchestra was founded in 2014 by a group of young musicians from the Baltic Sea Youth Philharmonic. Moving into positions with orchestras and their own projects, they were searching for a way to capture the unencumbered energy and excitement of playing in youth orchestra, but also to take responsibility for creating and shaping the music themselves.

The name "c/o" stands for the postal abbreviation. A letter is sent in care of another in the same way that a composer can only create his music in care of musicians. This responsibility to the music, the composer, and the audience is at the heart of c/o. Without a conductor dictating the interpretation, the musicians work together in rehearsal to find together a compelling idea for each and every piece, and are all the more free in performance.

The musicians perform in orchestras and with their own projects throughout Europe, coming together multiple times during the year to tour with c/o. The repertoire is as diverse as the orchestra itself. From chamber music to symphonies, from baroque to modern, there is one binding thread. Each and every work that c/o performs has a unique and compelling character that is made even clearer through c/o’s approach.

After two successful seasons with concerts in Germany and soloists such as the jazz trombonist Nils Landgren and the violinist Cornelia Gartemann of the Berlin Philharmonic, c/o moves into its 2016 season expanding its education work and continually seeking out new challenges and collaborations.
