Lesmona 2018 and some new jobs!

Hello again! I hope everyone had a great summer!

One of my favourite concerts to play in the summer with the Kammerphilharmonie is Summer in Lesmona. On this weekend the orchestra take over a park, build a huge outdoor tent and put on several four concerts. The audience bring picnics and it is a really relaxed vibe. As well as playing many famous classical works, the orchestra also invite guest bands to perform with them. This year there was a balkan fusion band called Kolsimcha who were fantastic to play with. The soloist for the Friday evening concert was Finish Jazz pianist Iiro Rantala who performed some of his own works and an incredible rendition of Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin. This concert went so well that we are performing it again at New Years in Köln and then recording it in the first week of 2019!

As well as the performing side I am really excited to say that I will be starting two new teaching jobs in September and October. The first is with Musaik, a music for social change programme based in Dresden's Prohlis area. This is an El Sistema inspired programme which teaches children orchestral music for free after school 3 times a week. I know it will be an incredible project to work with and I am excited to be starting there in a few weeks!

In October I will begin coaching the tuba section of a local wind orchestra/marching band. I can't wait to start this and get back into some teaching and coaching work. I have not managed to do that much of it since moving to Germany, and I really miss it!
